Set on the edge of the golden dunes, this luxury resort provides a magical setting and traditional Arabian charm. A few days ago, I stayed at Bab Al Shams and I can tell you – it was a magical experience. Whether it’s camel rides at sunset or floating in an infinity pool under the desert sky, there is something here for every kind of traveler.
So, I'm here to walk you through my own experience and provide you with the lowdown about how to make the most of a trip (price wise, that is) to Bab Al Shams, without having to take on a second job
The moment you enter Bab Al Shams, you’re transported to what feels like a fairytale. The resort is built in the style of an Arabic fort with courtyards, cobbled roads and old-world architecture speaking tales of history. It is silent, almost eerily so, and cocooned in desert silence that is like balm to the soul. Behind the walls you’ll find lush gardens, soothing fountains and shaded walkways that make exploring here a pleasure in its own right.
There’s no hurrying here, it all slows down and before you know it, you’re being present.

One of favorite places to relax in Bab Al Shams is by its pools. Whether lounging in the Mohave pool (which is the central temperature-controlled infinity pool), sitting in a shaded cabana, or enjoying a drink looking out into the horizon, this place does the desert in extravagance.
For visiting guests, or those not staying overnight, a pool day pass is the ideal ticket to the magic. The adult day pass is available for AED 350 on weekends and AED 175 for kids. During the week, it goes down to AED 250. And believe me, worth every last dirham. And all the Jacuzzis and photo ops that the pool-side bar provides.
And if you’re trying to make the most of your money (and not just use the pool), go for the Pool Access + Lunch option. The Flower Package runs Monday to Thursday (excluding public holidays) and includes a tasty lunch as well as pool access – AED 350 for adults and AED 200 for children. The lunch spread is a sight to behold: we’re talking traditional Arabic mezze, grilled meats, and desserts that will have you waking up at 3am just to think about them.
There’s also a more festive choice for Fridays: Pool + Friday Garden Brunch, an option that includes pool access and an extensive brunch buffet stocked with live-cooking stations and regional fare. Seating preference: You have the dispatch to choose from the packages either of AED 550 and AED 450
Now let’s talk adrenaline. The 60-minute Bab Al Shams Desert Safari is an exhilarating experience that drives you deep into the dunes in the power of a 4x4. It’s dusty, it’s wild and it’s an absolute ride. En route, keep your eyes peeled for native desert wildlife such as Arabian oryx and gazelles. If you are lucky, you can see desert foxes flashing across the sand.
It starts at AED 980 for two people, and it’s really something you should do if you want to feel like you’re in an epic desert movie experience. Book this ahead, to secure a spot at sunset — it’s worth it for the photos alone.
If dune bashing isn’t for you, a Bab Al Shams Nature Walk is a softer introduction to the desert. Guided by some extremely knowledgeable guides, this one hour walk is a relaxing, educational stroll through the local flora and fauna. It concludes with the setting sun creating a state of golden-red on the dunes.
It’s priced at AED 150 and is available every day from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Perfect families or single travelers who are looking to find beauty in stillness.
At Bab Al Shams, archery isn’t just a novelty activity offered at the hotel it’s a gosh-darn cultural obsession. You’ll be guided by experienced instructors for daily morning and evening sessions, learning from the ground up literally focusing on proper posture, smooth and stable aiming, and safety. It’s actually quite meditative and insanely satisfying when you land that first bullseye.
Adults are AED 175, children are AED 140. Slots offer out, so plan ahead if you are coming in on a weekend.
Falconry is an integral part of Emirati heritage, and the falconry sessions at Bab Al Shams are among the best in Dubai. There are two options: a free early evening show (4:30 to 5:30 pm) and a more intimate, paid display in the morning. Watching these birds soar, dive, and interact with their handlers is nothing short of mesmerizing.
It’s AED 150 for the exclusive morning show, and it’s something I would absolutely do again.
And for something completely different, there’s fat biking, which involves riding specially designed bikes across the dunes. It’s a fun workout, and the views are out of this world. Great for risk-takers who like to do things a little differently. The guided tours are available from 8am – 6pm and are priced at AED 210 per person.
Yes, you read that correctly: tennis in the desert. So there’s a court right behind the beautiful Al Forsan restaurant where you can play singles or doubles. That’s the sort of oddball thing that makes Bab Al Shams so special. Including gear, it’s 150 dirhams for singles and 200 for doubles.
Relax at the pool or enjoy a drink at the bar after a thrilling game.
The Bab Al Shams gym will cater to those of you who like to keep moving even when you’re on holiday. It comes with a full set of modern cardio machines, free weights and strength training machines. An individual personal trainer is also available for those who prefer a guided workout. Bonus: separate men’s and ladies’ changing rooms, available free of charge.
